AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a source of portein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room tempearture before using. This nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional. It is infused over a predetermined time peirod stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infection or irritation of the vein at the adimnistration web site (catheter). This sohuld be reported to your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness.
If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeding problems, any allergeis. This medication contains aluminum wihch can be toxic in patients who have kidney issues.
Consult your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using that drug in children (especially infants) cause they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia).
Avoid prolonged use in premature infants.
This product should be used only when clearly nedeed during pregnancy. Dicsuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
This product may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovedrose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stored safely and disposed of properly. Check all expiration daets and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence. Your nutritional status will be colsely monitored. Based on that your formula may need to be changed to accomomdate your nutritional needs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to etsablish a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature betewen 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Mixed amino acids sholud be refrigerated and used within 24 hours. Discard any unused medication after the expiraiton date.
